- Hike to Wyoming's Shoshone Lake
Hike with the YellowstonePark.com team to Shoshone Lake above Lander, Wyo.,in the Shoshone National Forest. The lake is a huge, beautiful lake that's full of fish and flanked by beautiful views of the southern Wind River Range. This hike isn't for the light-hearted. In fact, most who use this trail are on an ATV. Our route started via Fairfield Hill, then to Pete's Lake, Twin Lakes and Shoshone Basin, before arriving to Shoshone Lake, at the end of a 4,000-foot gain over 12 miles. After walking along the lake, ascend Cyclone Pass, a lung-buster, before arriving at the most spectacular view in the area, where you can see the entire southern Wind River Range before you with Shoshone Lake in the foreground. Next, descend the "Chute" (for too many miles), to Suicide Point, then let the lead out in Mexican Creek and Baldwin Creek. All told, 24 miles of hiking. Ambitious but also a great adventure!File Download (60 min / 53.03 MB)

Recently, YellowstonePark.com's Shelli Johnson went on her first fly-fishing adventure. Guided by Tim Wade, owner of North Fork Anglers in Cody, Wyoming, Johnson was able to catch the two biggest fish she's ever caught after only 2 hours of fly-fishing! First, Wade provides an introduction to fly-fishing, including how to get outfitted for a day on the river, and the basics of fly-fishing. The two spent a couple of hours on the North Fork of the Shoshone River, which is located off the most scenic stretch of road in America, en route to Yellowstone Park's East Entrance. On the way to the river, Wade shares his philosophy on the sport and stewardship and explains why a person might consider fly-fishing and discusses the differences between fly-fishing and spin rod fishing. Then, you'll witness Johnson's first catch with a fly rod. After just a short time of fly fishing, Johnson was "hooked." Hopefully you learn a little, are intrigued to try fly-fishing and feel as if you're with Johnson and Wade as you listen to this podcast.
