    Chris,

It looks like we may be tracking some of the same people:

My Great Grandparents were Emma & Francis (through thier son Russell)

Emma was born in Philadelphia, correct? If so then I have a copy of her birth certificate but not much else. My theory all along has been that Erastmus was killed at Saylor's Creek and afterwards Sarah and Emma moved (back?) to Maryland where Sarah married Ephraim Zepp. And so on down to Emma and Francis, Russell A. (Grandfather), Russell L. (my father), then me.

I've not been able to find anything on Erastmus' family.

    Thanks,
    Tom
  • KNORR/SAUERWEIN/ZEPP/ZIMMERMAN
I am looking for some informaiton on these St Louis families. The
KNORRS came to St Louis from Bellville, St. Clair County, Illnois just
before the 1880 census. It is thought that all these families came to
the area from Germany by way of New Orleans. I am not sure if the
other three families came directly to St Louis, stayed in New Orleans
for a while, or started in St Clair County Illinois the way the KNORRS
did. I would love to know.

Here is my situation: Caroline SAUERWEIN (1874-1950) married Louis
    KNORR (1872-1952) abt 1892 or 93. Louis Knorr's mother was a ZIMMERMAN
from Belleville or Mascoutah, Illionois. Caroline SAUERWEIN's death
record lists her mother as Anna FUCHS and her father as Carl (Charles)
SAUERWEIN. The records of her siblings-older and younger- list
Catharina Elisabeth ZEPP as the mother and Carl (Charles) ZEPP as the
father. The census records consistently list Catharina ZEPP as the
mother. There's even a marriage record for Carl and Catharina. .

Here's the problem: The family oral history is not sure if she was
FUCHS or ZEPP, the transcription refers to her as grandma, and her
husband is called Phillip by the great aunt that was interviewed. I
have researched this as much as and I can find no connections with
any Phillip or FUCHS. Although there is a Phillip SAUERWEIN in this
time and place he does not seem to be from the same SAUERWEIN family.
Maybe an uncle or cousin-but I have not been able to verify that
either. Anyone have any ideas of who Anna FUCHS may be? I would
really love to be able to solve this mystery, and also to share what I
have with anyone interested in these families.
    Thanks so much,
  • Re: Zepp documents
    Hi -

I have information on Erastmus Smart who married Sarah E. Cline. They are ancestors of my wife. She descents from Emma Frances Smart who married Francis Washington Poole through their daughter Lavinia.

I would love to exchange information.

    Thank you,

    Chris Smithson
  • Re: Zepp in Wisconsin
In my family there were Zepps in Wisconsin that came from Bavaria region of Germany. Not sure when they first came and settled in Wisconsin. There was Adam Zepp, who was one of the founders of the Badger Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired in the early 1900s, located in Milwaukee, WI and still in existence today. There were also Arthur Zepp, Bertha Zepp (Green Bay), Emmy Zepp and Roy Zepp.

  • Samuel T. Zepp in Baltimore, MD
Looking for information on Samuel T. Zepp, born about 1872, in Carroll Co., MD. His mother's name was Mary Jane Zepp, born abt 1841 and died between 1910-1920. Mary Jane was the daughter of William and Sarah Ann Hatfield Zepp of Carroll Co., MD. In 1900 Samuel and wife Emma lived in Election Dist. 1 in Baltimore. They had children: Virgie; Gurney and Audrey. In 1910 Samuel and Emma lived in Ward 8 in Baltimore and had children Elda and Milton in addition to the previous three mentioned. His mother Mary Jane was still living with them but she was 75.

Samuel had a sister Jennie born 1862 and I believe she married a Richard Walker who came from Ireland. I don't believe they had children.

Samuel also had a brother Marshall Howard Zepp, 1861-1926, who lived as an adult in Frederick, MD, where he worked at the Hygia Ice Plant.

I'm hoping to find a name for Samuel's father. His brother Marshall's death certificate and interment records at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Frederick give his father as Marshall Zepp and his mother as Mary Jane with no surname given. As my research has revealed, Mary Jane's surname was Zepp, and I'm wondering if "Marshall Zepp" even existed. Any help in sorting out this and finding a name for Samuel's father is greatly appreciated.
  • Re: Christopher Zepp
My husband's g-g-g-grandfather was William Zepp who was 62 in 1880; he was a son of Christopher. William was married to Sarah Ann Hatfield. His brother John was married to Sarah's sister Rebecca. My husband's line goes from William and Sarah (Hatfield) Zepp to their daughter Mary Jane Zepp, born abt 1841, and her son, Marshall Howard Zepp, 1861-1926, his daughter, Carrie Zepp, 1884-1923, who married Peter Flair (d. 1927; he was in his 40s), to their daughter Lena, 1913-1977, who married Eugene Nash, 1914-1987.

Email me at luv_u_suzieq@yahoo.com so we can discuss this at length. I'll check my family tree and see who I have as Christopher's wife.
