Specifically, the research will use a mega‐event, the 2011 Rugby World Cup (RWC 2011), to analyse the collaboration and knowledge transfer process between Tourism Auckland (a regional tourism organisation) and other organisations and public authorities in their efforts to leverage this event.

  • NZTRI presents at Cawthron Aquaculture Conference in Nelson

    On November 5th, Dr.John Hull presented a breakout session at the Cawthron Aquaculture Conference in Nelson on NZTRI's continuing research linked to the role of Innovation on the Top of the South Aquaculture and Seafood Trail organised by the Marine Farming Association in 2006.  The session was attended by over 40 participants.  The survey results from businesses and planners conducted in 2008 and preliminary results of visitors to the region in 2009 were presented.  The baseline data is providing information for policymakers on how to strengthen linkages between the aquaculture and tourism industries in the region.  The research programme for the Top of the South Aquaculture and Seafood

    The Prime Minister of New Zealand John Key spoke to the backpackers industry conference suggesting that many world economies are looking as if they're coming out of the recession, particulaly China which may prove to become a major market for backpackers.

  • What do you say UK? Tourism NZ urges travellers to go all the way

    George Hickton unveiled a new $2 million dollar campaign at the first NZ Backpacker Industry Conference. The campaign is targeting European backpackers to consider whether they have "gone all the way" by ensuring their travels include a visit to New Zealand. New long haul departure taxes introduced in November 2010 may offer new cost considerations for backpackers travelling from the European market. NZTRI Director, Simon Milne comments that we need to fight back in regard to tourist miles. Video coverage is available at the TV3 website.
