  • Re: cemeteries in Stamping Ground, KY
Thanks so much for your reply. I did find the graveyard and then, went to the
town office where they said they have no record of where individuals are buried.
Strange, since my aunt and uncle were buried next to her much later. The gravedigger has to know where to put the bodies, don't they? My grandmother died very young from tuberculosis when my mother was barely a year old. Unfortunately, she was cremated and therefore, there is no visual evidence that she lived. I found grandmother's grave some forty plus years ago but, unfortunately, many people have died since then when I made my last visitation.
I really appreciate your response. George

  • Re: LAY, GREEN
    Wanda,
I forwarded your message to my daughter who has all this information. I am sending you her reply.

From; Linda Lynsey:red92199@yahoo.com You can contact her directly. I also forwarded you message to Joyce Green Adkerson in Hixson, TN. She is another cousin and all the Green's are up there. jadkerso@yahoo.com Good Luck

I will have to go find the paperwork but if her husband is Levi's greatgrandson, then he is our cousin. He would be the son of one of Levi's and Liza's children---same as your mama was daughter of jack Green. If her husband is not a child of one of those children (we know of all of them and have pictorial history of them) then she's looking at the wrong Green. There is another Levi Green in the area from the same time period who later moved to Illinois. We need to find out first if she's on the right track.

We have no proof that George Lay was Levi's father--Levi is listed as Green in the census before Arnett was born. Arnett was always listed as Lay and there is a marriage record that postdates Levi's birth by several years. Levi's grandfather's name was Lindsy (Lindsey) Green, as was one of his sons.
Levi was listed as Green on the census (1850) and enrolled in the Union Army under that name. However he lied about his background prior to becoming a blacksmith apprentice. We have the pension interviews with people from that area who confirm he had only been living there a short while before he joined up.

Try and find out who's son her husband was--if they're on the right family, I'll try and pull out the stuff....or bring it to you! lol!

A Woman's heart should be so lost in God that a Man needs to seek Him in order to find her
  • Re: LAY, GREEN
Hi there, where did you get the information regarding the marriage date of Sarah and George W Lay in Scott County? I am doing research on Levi Green and his family. My husband is a great grandson of Levi Green. He is listed on page 426 of Scott County Ky 1850 Cenus, Sarah Lay 26, Levi Lay 5 and Arnett Lay under 1. I am trying to find Sarah's husband's name, father of Levi and Arnett. Was Sarah a "Green" before she became a Lay? Later on Levi changed his name from"Lay" to "Green" and enlisted inthe Civil War as Levi Green
  • Re: LAY, GREEN
I am responding to a message created 7-8-98 regarding Sarah Lay Green. My husband is a greatgrandson of Levi Green. I have found Levi's name in the 1850 census showing his mother as Sarah Lay, Levi being 5 and Arnett a baby. Do you have any information as to Sarah's husband, where they were married, when they were married. Levi was born 1844 and during the Civil War he enlisted as Levi Green. Do you know how and when he changed his name.
Any information you may have will be greatly appreciated. There is a Sarah Lay listed as 21 and George Lay listed as married in Pulaski county, page 93 or 1850 census and on page 426 is listed Sarah Lay, Levi Lay and Arnett Lay, Scott County. This Sarah is listed as 26. Have you found out a marriage book for Scott County Ky.
