A lot more than you probably think. But if you plan to get one, you have to finesse the degree’s lingering image problem.
Yesterday Google showed off its forthcoming Chrome OS, leaving many to wonder how exactly the company will monetize it. The answer: it won’t. Since Google derives 97% of its revenue from online ads, it simply wants you using a computer that is always online. Specifically, it wants you on a computer that is one click [...]
You’re counting on your 401(k) to provide a cushy retirement. Or at least food, shelter, and a broadband connection. But many investors undermine their savings plans without even knowing it. We’ve compiled a list of the most common mistakes, and explained how to avoid them.

It wasn’t always easy to find iC SuperCOMPUTERS (Santa’s Favourite Log Cabin). We were in essence, completely obscured by what we called, “The Twilight Zone”.It’s now easier because the most popular search engines now work with the following address search: 986 Hwy. 54, Six Nations, ONNot long ago if you were to search any online map site using our actual 986 Hwy 54 address for your journey to the iC Store and A Sharp Cafe it may have felt like being in an adventure-drama movie. The road to change for our search for useable search engine criteria begins here.In the center of the digital world,In Canada’s largest mass of Carolinian forest.“No roads lead to them. They are inaccessible. They are not on a map.We are above unexplored regionsor more precisely. they are shown only as white stripesIt is the unknown.”- quotes from Le Vallee (Valley Obscured by Clouds) Sometimes, we would hear the horror stories of people who were misdirected to the opposite direction of the store on Hwy 54 by notable sites such as MapQuest, Google Maps, Yellowpages.ca, Canpages, Gold Book and others. Years of work with many online directories resulted in improvements, but it still was tricky. Sometimes the maps required wrong postal codes to be entered before it could pinpoint our location. Others required wrong townships. Some required partial postal codes before it worked. And, some would find us when using a browser, but completely screw up when the same exact search criteria was entered on an iPod Touch or iPhone. We heard of people being misguided by their search engine to head East of Caledonia, even though we are about 12 Kilometers West of Caledonia. Some even showed our store as being located in Raleigh, North Caroline in the States. We know we lost a lot of customers due to search engine errors despite our best efforts over the years. We know that for every story of being misdirected by a search engine from a customer who contacted us (by phone or by actually finding us) to let us know, there were many more who didn’t find us and didn’t tell us about it. Some of the people who diligently worked on the problem have discovered that the specific search engines would work, as long as you knew either which postal code or township to enter. At one time Apple’s online locator directed people to the intersection of Mines Road and Highwy 54 (Grand River Scenic Parkway). And, in those days, that was a good as it got because of all search engines, it was the one that came closest. The store is only 10 km West (toward Brantford) from that intersection. Having a Caledonia postal code didn’t help drivers when attempting to decide on which way to turn once they got there. Later, using Ohsweken as the town and N0A 1M0 as the postal code has directed people to the intersection of Chiefswood Road and 4th Line Road, which is several concessions away. Still, that was better than most search results because it was not only closer to us, but if a driver decided to ask somebody the chances of someone knowing the proper directions were much greater. Then last year we learned that using different postal codes and different towns help generate better success. Except, that it was bizzare mix, a special formula, if you will. Some search engines worked with Ohsweken as the city/town, but many only worked with Brant as the city/town. In fact, during the initial years of search engine, none of them worked when we used our Ohsweken address. At that time, we recommended avoiding search engines altogether. Which is way we created our own iC Map using AppleWorks (Yes, it was that long ago - iWork ’08 didn’t exist then - iWork took over as the reigning king for Apple word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. Draw is missing from the mix. EasyDraw has now taken over the reigns for AppleWorks Draw.) Since a lot of it was about the journey to Santa’s Log Cabin, our own online directions from several locations, as requested by visitors to the store, and in some cases, alternate directions for scenic routes, shortcuts, pit stops and bad weather routes. Last year one of our directory advertisers helped to put us on the map by given us an alternate postal code that worked for both Canpages and Yellow.ca. Brantford was the city and N3T 5L9 was the postal code. But that address didn’t work for Google and MapBlast. Later, it was discovered that 986 HWY-54, Brant, ON N0E XXX, where XXX means you you make it up. Yes, that’s right, it seemed that for Google Maps and MapBlast. It didn’t take too long before it was realized that only the first three characters of the postal code was all that was required. And, this mess is what he had to live with. Ditto for addresses used to find us by Canada Post, Couriers and Bell Telephone. Fred Vermeer, our Apple Certified Technician, discovered that omitting the postal code worked for most search engines. Fred also discovered with the omission of a postal code allowed Ohsweken as the city/town worked for all of the top search engines. We now know that the postal code played a big part in the previous errors. I guess this confirms that we do live in the Twilight Zone. (Do do do doo, do do do do doo.)But, at least, thanks to Fred, it’s now a easier. Check it out for yourself. And, let us know what doesn’t. (Note: We still have yet to test it with search engines running on PDAs, X-Box, Wii, iPod Touch and iPhone.Search Engine Criteria: 986 Hwy. 54, Six Nations, ON This was an awesome breakthru because it meant that our address could remain the same across several search engines. So we decided to try it with a few of the most popular search engines.GOOGLE Search:Results:Yahoo Search:Results:CANPAGES search:Results:But, not all is well. These are 'natural' people with little inhibition or self-consciousness by Western standards, and Schroeder gets great intimate footage of their interaction with the visitors, all of it remarkable in its lucidity. Part of the interest in following The Valley (Obscured by Clouds) to its end is wondering how an Easy-Rider quest like this one is going to be resolved. The subject of this particular show is really the journey, but the mysterious ending turns out to be eerily satisfying. The Valley (Obscured by Clouds) was made by a stellar roster of talent.”- Reviewed by Glenn EricksonYou-Tube Video of the Day: Obscured by Clouds by Pink FloydNow let’s hope that Santa’s sleigh ride to the iC Log Cabin isn’t obscured by clouds.
