The Sheep Creek Wildfire, about 40 miles northeast of Los Angeles in the San Gabriel mountains has burned 7,500 acres and was 20% contained as of Monday afternoon. The resort town of Wrightwood remains under a mandatory evacuation order. Three structures have been destroyed with 2000 threatened. Cooler temperatures and calmer winds are helping the containment effort. There are no other critical fire weather areas today. - Wildfires in the West
The Sheep Creek wildfire in the San Bernardino National Forest near the community of Lytle Creek began Saturday afternoon. No deaths or injuries have been reported. On Sunday, the California Governor declared a state of emergency in San Bernardino County. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire had burned over 3500 acres and was 10% contained. Approximately 5000 people have been under a mandatory evacuation order in Wrightwood, California. In Arizona, an escaped prescribed burn was threatening the community of Williams, Arizona, and led to evacuations. Some residents remained away from their homes for another day. The fire scorched about 1,000 acres by Sunday. - Critical Fire Areas for Saturday
A critical fire weather area has been declared for portions of southern and central Nevada, eastern California, and southwestern Utah due to strong winds and low relative humidity. There are critical fire weather areas today for inland southern California, northern California northward to southern Washington, and portions of northwest Arizona into southeast California. Red flag warnings are in effect for much of the West Coast due to gusty winds, unseasonably warm temperatures, and very low relative humidity. - Wildfires
The wildfire in the forest north of Los Angeles was nearly 93% contained on Sunday. Fire crews dropped 80,000 gallons of water on the fire in anticipation of hot, dry winds moving into the area this week. The fire has destroyed 89 homes and scorched nearly 281 square miles. Critical wildfire areas are identified for the Columbia Gorge into northern California and for inland Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, and the mountains of Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. - Critical Fire Areas

Gusty southeasterly winds of 15-25 MPH along with temperatures into the upper 80's and lower 90's will result in relative humidity values into the 10-15 percent range. - Wild Fire Danger

A fatal wildfire burning north of Los Angeles grew to more than twice the size of California's capital Tuesday evening. The Station fire is now double the size of Sacramento. The Station fire has burned for nearly two weeks and has charred 160,357 acres, making it the eighth-largest wildfire in California since 1932. About 4,700 firefighters are battling the blaze and hope to fully contain the fire by September 15. There are no other critical areas for wildfires today. - Critical fire weather area in the West
An upper level trough is forecast to continue progressing eastward into the Pacific Northwest on Saturday and will be accompanied by a surface cold front. Thunderstorms are expected to occur ahead of the trough over much of the Intermountain West and Desert Southwest.Critical fire weather conditions will be possible with gusty winds and low relative humidity ahead of the surface cold front over northeastern California, northwestern Nevada, and southeastern Oregon. - Wildfires in Hawaii and Los Angeles
A wildfire on Molokai has burned 8000 acres since Saturday and is currently at 80% containment. It may affect residential areas near the town of Kawela today. The fire started in the mountains near Kaunakakai. The fire has spread to the Molokai Forest Reserve where 400 acres were burned.An apiary in Kapa'akea was burned causing $20,000 in damage and $18,000 in lost honey. In California, moisture moved into the area yesterday allowing humidity to increase. Onshore flow with cooler temperatures and even higher humidity should bring improved conditions to the ongoing fires in California at the end of the week.
