- Rardin seeks re-election to Kansas House
June 5, 2008
TOPEKA – Rep. Gene Rardin, Overland park, announced that he has filed by petition for re-election to the Kansas House of Representatives. Rardin represents the 16th House District, which includes segments of Overland Park and Lenexa.
“It has been an honor to serve the people of Overland Park,” Rardin said. “I will continue to support policies at the Capitol that reflect the values of my constituents, both as Kansans and residents of this community."
First elected to the Legislature in 2006, Rardin serves on the House committees on Economic Development and Tourism, Transportation and Taxation. In 2008, Rardin also served on the House Select Committee on Energy and Environment for the Future, which explored ways to increase energy investments and production in Kansas. He offers a thorough understanding of complicated issues surrounding energy policy.
In addition to his work with Kansas energy policy, Rardin will utilize his experience as a public school teacher by serving on the Special Education Funding Task Force. This task force will study the existing formula for funding special education and related services, including Medicaid and replacement state aid.
Prior to his service in the House of Representatives, Rardin’s diverse professional background included time as a project engineer for Kansas City Power & Light, a telecommunications manager and a teacher. For the last 12 years, Rardin has owned his own Career Consulting and Training Business. He received two undergraduate degrees from the University of Kansas: one in education and another in electrical engineering. He also holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.
Rardin, a lifelong Johnson County resident, lives in Overland Park with his wife of 42 years, Juanita. They have two grown children and three granddaughters.
