Hi Lois
My GG Grandfather was John James Stuart (in some records spelled Stewart). Mechanic's House was originally owned by Jane Rutherford Shields (sister of John's wife Frances Rutherford Stuart) and after Jane passed John became the Proprietor. What I am looking for is the location of Mechanic's House and some History on it. One ad I found stated it was on Decatur above Washington Street--but that is all I know about the place. Thanks for replying.
Sue - Re: Books
Hello Sue,
What was your g/g/grandfather's name?
Lois/NJ - Books
Does any one know of any books that show the History and locations of older Hotels and Boarding House's in Cape May? My 2nd Great Grandfather was the propietor of the Mechanic's House in Cape May City in the late 1880's. I would love to find some information on this--but so far have not had any luck. Thanks in advance for any help.
Sue - Re: Jeremiah Johnson and Rhoda Townsend
Here is a reply to all those interested in the Jeremiah Johnson posts, especially Jeannette Babbitt, and Janis Johnson. I am Duane Ream, a music professor teaching at Bob Jones University in South Carolina. My line descends from Jeremiah Jefferson 1809 to Jonathan Townsend 1830 to Fidella Melvina 1864 to her son Lorenzo Thomas Shipley 1902 and his daughter, Melva Ream (my mother), 1937. Mother regularly attends the Johnson reunion held in Clarinda, Iowa and has much information on this particular branch of the Johnson family. I would love to talk with any of you about the family. Thanks. Duane - Re: RICE-HAND - MILLS - WILSON/WILLSON - SUTTON

Try reaching the Cape May County Historical and Genealogical Society at 609-465-3535. Their email address is www.cmcmuseum.org. - Re: RICE-HAND - MILLS - WILSON/WILLSON - SUTTON
I have tried clicking on every one of the links I found doing a search for the Cape May His and Gen Society and all of them are coming up as INVALID.
Not sure if it is a problem with AOL tonight or just what exactly.
I will attempt to post the query once more under New Jersey and the various surnames, maybe some one of the family knows the information of which I am asking.
thank you for your assistance.
No one seems to have parents for Susan SUTTOn who married Mr. WILSON/WILLSON, on rootsweb or gencircles.com a
