    Expansion: That’s the name of the game for the city of McAllen and its airport. City officials are hiring a consultant to bring more growth to the city. More carriers and more destinations would be mean more people passing through the area. This would mean more business for McAllen hotels. This would also open up the opportunity for the McAllen Convention Center to become an even bigger draw for people to hold events and functions.

    The consultant said McAllen’s location near the U.S.-Mexico border makes it a perfect stopover for people traveling to Mexican resort cities. Planes have to stop somewhere for fuel! In addition, this would also mean

    McAllen, Mission Mayors Push Governor to Fund Auto Plant

    The mayors of McAllen and Mission were recently speaking with Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst about the prospects of the McAllen-Edinburg-Mission MSA getting an auto plant.

    Our local officials seem confident that this proposed auto plant will receive funds from the Texas Enterprise Fund to help make this a reality. The manufacturer, not yet named, plans to produce a fuel-efficent car that would be available by 2011.
