  • The Stewart-Houston Times Now Online!!
    Hello Message Board,

Today is a great day in the Stewart-Houston County areas!! As of today you can now read "The Stewart-Houston Times" newspaper online. I am not sure if all the newspaper is represented, but the obituaries are there for sure! I picked up my hard copy of the newspaper today and haven't had a chance to check it against the online version to see if it is all there, of course our little newspaper is not that big, but we love it!!

"The Clarksville-Leaf Chronicle" owns "The Stewart-Houston Times" and even though the Leaf Chronicle has been online for years, the Stewart-Houston Times has not. Well, just today I found that they have added "The Stewart-Houston Times" newspaper to their site. I am excited!!

While a lot of Stewart and Houston Countians have their obituaries published in the Clarksville paper, there are many that don't and just have it published in "The Stewart-Houston Times". So, I am so glad to see that the Leaf Chronicle has finally added our little newspaper to their site.

Here is the link to "The Stewart-Houston Times" page, I hope everyone Enjoys!!!

  • L&N RR accidental death <1906>
William H. THOMAS was killed <1906>? in RR accident somewhere between Louisville KY and Nashville TN.

Checked with the RR Retirement Board and they have no records prior to about 1937.
Checked the Bullitt Co. KY Pioneer newspaper for an obit and did not find Thomas' obit; there was nothing about a railroad accident in the online newspaper excerpts of the Bullitt County Pioneer newspaper 1900-1912.

William H. THOMAS born abt 1871 Daviess Co. KY was an engineer on the Louisville & Nashville Railroad <1900>.

Thomas lived in Lebanon Jct. Bullitt Co. KY, was married and the father of four children.

There must be some news account of this RR accidental death somewhere but i don't know where else to look.

    Thanks for any help!

  • 13 Oct 1866 disaster/tragedy Memphis, TN
Four children of my ancestors died on 13 Oct 1866 according to Elmwood Cemetery records, where they are all buried in Memphis, Shelby Co, TN.

What happened on 13 Oct 1866? Does anyone know of a fire or train wreck or anything that would cause four children between the ages of 2 and 12 to all perish on the same day, from the same family?

The children who died were children of William Benjamin McNabb and Mariah Isham Jones. Their names were:
    William Benjamin McNabb, Jr.
    b. 1854
    Lebbens McNabb
    b. 1855
    Maria Louise McNabb
    b. 1862
    James McNabb
    b. 1864

All four of these children died on 13 Oct 1866.

If anyone knows of anything that happened on this date, please respond to my querie. I cannot search any newspaper archives in Memphis as I am in another state. Maybe there was a fire at the McNabb house or a train wreck in Tennessee somewhere on this date or something like that. I have no clue. Any small clue would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks!
