A Smarter Way to Get There is a transportation initiative of the Waterfront Partnership aimed at reducing congestion, improving air quality and helping make travel to the Waterfront easier. Through this initiative we have collected and distilled an array of often confusing travel information to encourage travel methods other than driving alone in a car.
At the smarter way website, you can find loads of information that makes commuting and traveling to the Waterfront area easier. Please visit www.asmarterwaytogetthere.org for tips about Waterfront travel including: walking, biking, Water Taxi, bus, light rail, metro and more. You can find useful links for routes, schedules, and even calculate your carbon footprint. Shortly we’ll feature updated news on the Charm City Circulator, car sharing and a new Harbor Commuter Water Taxi route so keep checking the site for the latest in Waterfront area travel news!
Walking Your Way To Wellness
Burn calories, breathe in some fresh air and enjoy the scenery along the beautified eight mile Waterfront Park. Visit the Waterfront Partnership’s web site or asmarterwaytogetthere.org to find the path on the brand new Waterfront walking map. Even the City Paper named the Waterfront Promenade as one of ‘Baltimore’s Best’! Where else can you complete your weekly exercise for free while enjoying magnificent water views from Canton to Locust Point?
According to Candace Grasso, CEO and Founder of Fit Is It, Inc., many people are missing out on an easy way to get fit, take off pounds and ease stress. A person weighing 150 pounds could lose 10-12 pounds a year by walking 20-30 minutes a day, reduce the risk for heart disease and lower high blood pressure.
Take a quick walk along the Waterfront during lunch, or park at that cheaper garage and walk a few extra blocks. If you start now you can use your extra savings for new smaller clothes at the end of the year!

Harbor Harvest - A Success
Fall harvest was bountiful on the harbor thanks to the 2nd Annual Harbor Harvest Festival sponsored by the Waterfront Partnership and the Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance. Hundreds of families enjoyed the beautiful day filled with all things Fall including creative hands-on crafts by Port Discovery, Whole Foods Market and the Walters Art Museum, live performances by Mr. Norman, fantastic pumpkin picking, a hay maze and delicious Fall inspired food. Special thanks to the Maryland Science Center and Ruppert Landscape for their participation and assistance with this year’s fun! We look forward to Harbor Harvest 2010.
Green Team Update
The Summer annuals were recently removed to make way for the heartier eye catching Fall pansies now lining the promenade. Come see the new Fall colors we’ve just planted. Over 10,000 flowers will fill the beds this fall and early spring. To vary our scheme, this year we’ve selected vibrant reds and yellows, steering away from the purple and yellows dominating most Fall gardens. Take a look and tell us what you think! Though Spring seems a long way off, our Green Team is working now to aerate and over seed our turf areas so they’ll be green and lush and ready for children’s play or family picnics on the grass in the Spring.
Upcoming Events
Now that Halloween’s sugar high is starting to fade, it’s time to get out the late Fall/Winter calendar to mark down these events.
