Forget 'What are your strengths and weaknesses?' If you want to get the real dope on prospective employees, ask job candidates these seven questions.

It's rare that you see a company use a very direct and angry tone when it comes to a union, but Delta (NYSE: DAL) really unloaded last week in response to the International Association of Machinists' (IAM) decision to postpone a representation election. I'm guessing this is a calculated move.

Hang onto this essential checklist, so you’ll know what to do when the time comes.

  • Relatives of Charles W. Stimpson
I am researching my family history and have been unable to find any further information on my great-grandfather, Charles W. Stimpson, other thatn his wife, Cecelia, whose maiden name I have been unable to find. The 1920 U.S. Census lists his residence as Semmes, Alabama and his place of birth as Indiana. It also lists his parents' place of birth as Ohio but their names are not listed. Unfortunately, my grandparents have all passed away so there is little in the way of any oral history to fill in any of the blanks. If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.
  • Catherine (Kate) Stimpson
I am looking for information on Kate Stimpson, who was married to my gg grandfather, James Carter Weeks. After his death, she married Delanie M. Bryant.

Family stories say that Kate had an Indian burial with wagon and all of her possessions in Saline Mills, LA (1887). Wonderful story, but would like some verifiction.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Frances
  • Re: Wm. Stimpson/Elizabeth Addley decendants
    Hi again,

It would appear Joseph Stimpson b. 1815 Stanground, Northamptonshire, had 2 wives. The first was called Mary, possible surname Guest. A Joseph Stimpson married Mary Guest in the region in 1845. A Mary Stimpson died in the region in 1852. The second wife was Catherine; possibly Catherine Hinch. A Joseph Stimpson married a Catherine Hinch in the region in 1856. These dates all tie in!!

Joseph and Mary had 3 children, Samuel b. 1845, Edward b. 1848 and William b. 1851, all in Eye. This Wm I think is YOUR William.

I have saved a few images of the census records, relevant to these. Email me jamesstimpson@btinternet.com and I'll send you a copy of them. I haven't found anything on Joseph's origins yet, but I hope this may give you a bit to go further on.

  • Re: Wm. Stimpson/Elizabeth Addley decendants
It is possible there is a connection there. My Stimpsons originated from places such as Guyhirn and Parson's Drove, both about 5 miles away from Eye, and from Wisbech, about 10miles away from Eye.

There are a few gaps in my records for Stimpson offspring and I hope a visit to Wisbech record office will soon answer some questions!

It's always nice to get some info as a reply to a thread, because as you said, it doesn't often happen. I see you are USA based, so if there is local information you would be interested in, I may be able to help (I live in Peterborough, a city which has almost engulfed Eye now!)

  • Re: Wm. Stimpson/Elizabeth Addley decendants
Hi, I have not been able to research much on my Stimpson line as the only Stimpsons I am aware of are the ones I posted. I have limited resources (online, $, etc..) Since I posted the info. in 2001 I have found alot of info. on their decendants that I listed and found more on the Addley connection. Also on Addley/Cooper.
My problem is I have no information to guide me futher on Stimpson. The following is all I have...

    Joseph Stimpson
    b. ? England
    d. ? England?
    -married-
    Unknown

    Children of Joseph & Unknown
    William Stimpson (my ggGrandfather)
    b. abt 18 Feb 1851 Eye, Northampton, England
    d. abt 17 Mar 1888 Pennsylvania
    -unknown if any more children-

Thank you for responding, I do not get a reply very often I was suprised! Do you think you may have my Stimpsons in your line?

  • Re: Stimpsons in England
    Hi Cory

The Stimpsons of Stalham are related to me through my mother, whose mother was Beatrice Elsie Stimpson. Robert Page Stimpson, (who died in 1856 and is buried with his wife Rachel Kirby at Ingham, Norfolk) had a son named William (1853-1928).
William relocated to the north east of England where he remained until his death. The family resided at a village called Hawthorn, County Durham where my grandmother was born in 1889. She married Joseph Hall in 1923 and they resided at Washington, Durham.
Photos and stories available at "A Chadwick Family Tree" on this site.
I'm also stuck at Robert Stimpson (1707).

  • Stimpson/Stimson/Stinson - Emerson link in ME or Mass??
A cousin and I have been searching for info on this family for years.....and are at a huge road block!

Our shared g-g-grandfather, William S. Emerson (the S could be Stimson/Stinson/Stimpson - always spelled different), died in October 1904 at the age of 31 in Charleston, SC. Married with 4 small children. Have plenty of info on wife/kids but nothing on him - only have one picture that had been passed down, along with his death certificate.

Family story has it he's from Maine, however their first child was born in Boston, in 1896. By 1900 He and his wife and other children were in Charleston (a 3rd child born there in 1900), s
